Don't ever feel bad about making and enforcing rules for your dog...their life literally depends on it. Dogs that sneak into the trash or steal things off of the counter can die from obstruction and toxicity. Dogs that run away from their owners get hit by cars. Dogs that react aggressively towards other dogs get into dog fights and sometimes the vet can't save them. Dogs that bite humans are often forced out of their homes by landlords and end up in shelters where they might not find a new home. Structure is good. Boundaries are healthy. Holding our dogs accountable helps them be their best. So don't feel bad about doing something good for your dog. Make sure you are not just leaning on your dogs for your own emotional gains but that you are also leading them. Dogs need us as much as we need them; be an unapologetic leader.
